“It’s impossible for pure curiosity and fear to coexist in any moment.”

Plus a farewell to the Olympic coach who trained recreational runners

Good morning. Here’s your three-part nudge for the day:

a prompt

Write on the following for 5–10 minutes:

Why is [popular thing] so popular at the moment?

(Select a popular thing of your choice, such as Labubu dolls, fall-asleep videos or being mad at Taylor Swift.)

a thought

“It’s impossible for pure curiosity and fear to coexist in any moment; we can be in only one state or the other.” – Tara Mohr, Playing Big

farewell

Jack Daniels, coach and exercise scientist (1933–2025)

“Joan Benoit (Samuelson)… arrived at his lab in late April 1984 unable to put weight on her foot… The first women’s US Olympic Marathon Trials was two weeks away, and Benoit was in a panic. Daniels, ever-calm and innovative, suspended an exercise bike from the ceiling and instructed Benoit to pedal with her arms… She went on to win the Trials race, and on August 5, 1984, triumphed at the inaugural women’s Olympic Marathon in Los Angeles.”

Thanks for coming, dear makers and shakers. See you tomorrow ☕
